Riz MC is back with another Rebels banger!! ‘Dont Sleep’ is his latest floorfiller offering heavyweight remixes from the mighty Tiefschwarz and Canadian newcomers Jonny White & Kenny Glasgow.
‘Don’t Sleep’ has been reworked by Tiefschwarz, the biggest dance duo of the past decade, and two of Canada’s pioneers of techno, Jonny White & Kenny Glasgow. Tiefschwarz’s take is stripped back to the bones, layered with shaking snares, piano chords and twisted percussion to take the track straight to the depths of the night, while White & Glasgow fire up the bassline and cook some mystery into the atmosphere. These two haunting cuts are made for causing damage to the dancefloor and challenge the feel of any party, each offering crisp and challenging interpretations to the original track for Crosstown Digital Rebels (CDR).
Rewind one year ago, Riz MC was releasing his debut EP on Crosstown Rebels and had a string of high profile gigs under his belt that saw him supporting Mos Def at Warehouse Project, Massive Attack at their opening night at Meltdown, Glastonbury and SXSW. Riz MC’s acting stats have continued to grow with his new film ‘Rage’ with Jude Law and Judi Dench out this month and ‘Shifty’ gathering more critical acclaim. His uniquely ambiguous style has found favour from everyone from the Guardian to DJ Mag and Radio 1 from Huw Stephens to Jo Whiley. The Locodice and Sukh Knight remixes of ‘Radar’ caused a storm in the underground scene and this next set of remixes promises to further highlight the succinct versatility of this fresh and original talent.
Ali and Basti Schwarz - brothers and music lovers, created Tiefschwarz out of a passion garnered since 1990 from their first experiences as DJs. They have since gone on to remix Depeche Mode, Madonna and Roxy Music and produced some of the classic anthems of dance music’s recent years.
Canadian cohorts, Jonny White & Kenny Glasgow have been pushing the boundaries of modern electronic music in Toronto through active promotion and turntable manipulation. Jonny White’s label, No.19 Music has seen him releasing music from the likes of DJ Sneak, Stacey Pullen & Jamie Jones alongside his own critically acclaimed productions, whilst his club nights have brought such luminaries as Carl Craig and Peace Division to his home town of Toronto earning him underground royalty status. Glasgow has recently released his incredible ‘Can You Feel It’ album on No 19, where he developed his at times quirky, minimal, and retro sound.
