Crosstown Rebels release the second part to the Familia remixes!

If you’re not already well aware, Familia is the album by Pier Bucci that was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. It’s the only artist album to be released on Crosstown Rebels so far and was regarded by many as the electronic album of the year. Sounding like nothing else, Familia appealed to anyone with an understanding of quality electronic music, quite frankly it’s a work of genius.

In recent years many features have been written about the ‘recent’ emergence of Chile and its unexpected source of cutting edge electronica artists. Well now in 2006, three Chilean’s now rule Europe and Ibiza, Pier is one of them, the other two are of course Luciano and Villalobos. Pier, like his fellow countrymen, is no newcomer to making his own unique style of techno, he’s been doing it all his life, and it’s just that now people are really appreciating it. Damian Lazarus and Matthew Styles, the two leaders of Crosstown Rebels, knew of his talent long before others did and have continued to push Pier since his first release for them in 2004. It’s also safe to say 2006 has been his biggest year yet with new productions in the bag, a continuous world tour and an appearance this summer at Sven Väth’s legendary ‘Cocoon’ sessions at Amnesia, as well as being asked to play live at the closing of DC10 this year.

‘Hay Consuelo’ along with ‘Tita’ and ‘L’Nuit’ were three of the most impressive tracks from ‘Familia’ and with the latter two already released it made sense to give this it’s own catalogue number and remix. The track itself is a haunting slab of spine-tingling, Latin-inspired techno. As with all his productions multiple layers of unconventional effects and twisted noises combine with rolling basslines and tough-but-warm beats to create a sound the body can’t help but move to. The addition of the Spanish vocal by Macha gives the track a timeless an d magical quality.

‘Instinct’ is a new exclusive piece of work from Pier’s fascinating mind. Not a peak time anthem, but more of a mood setter, an early groover or a late relaxer, this is a theme in all of his productions; they work on different levels at different stages of the day/night. A deep chugging bassline and electrified groove supply the backbone whilst the stretched chords give the perfect build to the tin like beats that follow. Listen closely to this and you’ll hear so much…

Samim is the choice of remixer for ‘Hay Consuelo’ and the multi-talented Swiss producer supplies the perfect complement to the original. His recent project as one half of Fuckpony with Jay Haze for Get Physical has enhanced his already very much-respected reputation as one of Europe’s leading stars. His remix is centred on a rolling bassy 4×4 kick drum that not only holds it all together perfectly but also injects a serious amount of funk to the proceedings. Of course the original parts are subtly layered on top of the infectious groove and the vocal sample really comes alive in the second half to make this, once again, a very exciting Pier Bucci/Crosstown Rebels release.
