No they’re not twins. Yes, they’re really sisters. As kids, they made up dance routines to Ace of Base’s “The Sign” album and religiously listened to TLC’s “Crazy Sexy Cool” until they knew all of Left Eye’s rap verses by heart. It’s these long-standing musical connections and interactive energy that make any Lisbona exposure electric.
Since the start of their official music career in 2011, they’ve secured releases on acclaimed labels such as Nervous, Insomniac Records, South Of Saturn, and Club Sweat. Their most recent release on Seth Troxler’s Berlin-based Slacker 85 label, “Articulation”, showcases heightened levels of artistry with their original lyrics and Italo-laced vocals, infused with a fiercely charged top line from a poem written about a toxic ex-boyfriend. The track hit #1 on the Beatport Dance charts and received tons of attention, including peak-time play by massive artists at venues like Space Miami and Amnesia Ibiza, radio plugs by Danny Howard and Sarah Story on the iconic BBC Radio 1, and a dedicated print feature by DJ Mag.
Onward and upward, their upcoming release schedule boasts a sonically voluptuous and diverse presence: a sultry single feature with multi-verse lyrics and vocals on an upcoming album from the legendary Felix Da Housecat, a cheeky flavor-filled collab with Life On Planets, a commissioned remix for Richy Ahmed on his London-rooted Four Thirty Two label, a funk-filled rework for Soul Clap Records, and their Certified Groover EP for This Ain’t Bristol, which surely lives up to its title.
While they’ve been acclaimed for rocking massive festival stages and super-club main rooms all over the globe, they also have the deep-rooted musical knowledge to impress the most judgmental of music-heads at an intimate underground. As DJs, their musical style varies from dance floor to dance floor, prioritizing context and crowd connection above all else. House, disco, techno and Italo energetically weave their ways into the party; their selections are always contextually thoughtful and genre-wise, nothing is off-limits.
Lisbona Sisters’ track record may be stacked, but be assured that they are just getting started. One thing’s for sure; by the time they’re finished with you, you’ll be seeing double
