After having met in Barcelona, Nabih Esta aka Nesta, one of the most forward thinking heads in Beirut’s electronic music scene and part of the legendary überhaus and The Gärten family, invited Jakob Seidensticker and Henrik Raabe aka Silky Raven, also very well known as part of Wareika, for a gig in Beirut in 2015. There, Jakob and Henrik were introduced to the soulful oriental sounds of Fairuz and Ziad el Rahbani, as Nabih drove them around the beautiful mountains surrounding the City.
They fell totally in love with lebanese music and culture. The trio realized how well traditional oriental music and modern electronic music match and so began their musical collaboration. They mixed up both styles by covering melodies from oriental music with synthesizers, drum machines and electric guitar. As they experimented with the sound, Nabih suggested that they use his grandfather’s best friend’s music, who, as it turned out, was none other than oriental music legend, Wadih El Safi. With the blessing from Safi’s family, the trio sampled his voice and from that, a beautiful construction of harmoniously conversing musical styles was born.
